Start with Layout
Before you start to dream too deeply about your new bathroom, it’s important to know what you can practically achieve. Find out where the pipes run, including the drainage, and where the ventilation comes in.
Tiling can be one of the most expensive parts of bathroom design, so consider how many ‘wet walls’ you want, as those will need at least partial tiling.
Vanity
If you have space, consider a vanity unit with a built-in sink (or two). It’s much easier to clean up messes on the worktop when you can just sweep it into the sink, and you will get additional space to store and display your belongings.
Consider Lighting
Think about where the light comes into your bathroom, as you will need to place mirrors in areas where you can see properly. If you can’t achieve that, you will need to think about adding in electrical lighting.
Separate Shower
If you have the space, it’s well worth fitting a separate shower. This will give you the flexibility of adding extra shower bars, and will free your bath up for serious lounging. When thinking about shower glass, look for 8mm shower glass panels such as these: https://marvinandpinch.co.uk/products/8mm-clear-toughened-shower-screen-wetroom-panel-glass
Invest in a Tub
Better Homes & Gardens consider the tub the focal point of the bathroom. Whether you choose an ornate free-standing bath with claw feet or a modern, sleek design, it will set the tone for your bathroom.
If you want a platform bath instead, it will have a side panel. This can be used as a feature, by adding a decorative element such as tiles or making it functional – adding storage space, for example.
Storage
Consider what you have that you want to hide, or display, in your bathroom and plan your storage accordingly. As well as cupboards or drawers in a vanity unit, think about towel rails and storage for toiletries, cleaning materials and more.
Flooring & Window Dressing
The finishing touches for your bathroom, these two can help you set the tone in your bathroom and change it easily. Make sure whatever you choose is water resistant and easy to clean.
